I recently received my financial aid award letter from University of Illinois. I have read (here) that it may be possible if your parents get denied the PLUS loan to receive more aid in student loans? I was wondering if anyone could attest (or deny) to the veracity of that for my situation. And if yes, would my parents have to go through the whole process of applying and get denied because if I just decline it on the award letter, I wouldn't be seen as needing more assistance?
