Need Honda Civic Engine Cleaned?

Got my car in 2004 and never had the engine cleaned.

It will cost $180 to have it fully detailed at the Honda dealership (they can only do full service and not just engine service).

I am trying to find someone to help me clean my engine.

1) One guy is charging $50, and advising using regular hose vs. using power hose (I like the idea of using regular hose vs. power hose because I'm afraid power hose might disconnect some delicate wiring inside car).

2) One guy is charging only $25 but he also wants to use 2 cans of brake cleaner and 1 container of degreaser. I am AFRAID to use brake cleaner to clean my engine, it is very strong stuff and I am reading advisement against using it to clean car engine.

I am inclined to just pay the $180 and have my car fully detailed but I don't really want to spend that kind of money.

I am told I can do this myself but am afraidi to, as I do not know the inside of a car, i.e., carburator, etc. etc., which I am told must be covered while cleaning the engine.

What is your advice?

Thank you.
