Need help with thesis statement for my history essay about the great depression..?

The great depression was one of the most devastating events in Canadian History because millions of dollars have been lost due to the stock market crash. Most of the population couldn’t find work, and farmers couldn’t make any profit because stock prices were to low and drought.

I need a good starting sentence, like that would make the reader interested.. Any ideas? And if there are any mistakes in the Thesis Statement please address it Thankyouu :)
