if 40.0 grams of H3PO4 reacts with 60.0 grams of MgCO3 according to this reaction, 2H3PO4 + 3MgCO3 ----> Mg3 (PO4)2 + 3CO2 + 3H2O (already balanced) the calculate the volume of carbon dioxide gas produced at STP.

A) 13.7 L
B) 47.8 L
C) 6.09 L
D) 15.9 L

Moles H3PO4 = 40.0 g / 98.0 g/mol=0.408
moles MgCO3 = 60.0 g /84.32 g/mol= 0.712
the ratio between H3PO4 and MgCO3 is 2 : 3
2 : 3 = 0.408 : x
x = moles MgCO3 needed = 0.612
we have 0.712 moles MgCO3 so it is in excess

the ratio between H3PO4 and CO2 is 2 :3
moles CO2 = 0.612
Volume = 0.612 x 22.4 =13.7 L
