Went to doctor yesterday and found out what he thinks is causing my current pain is inflamation in my facet joints. He said sometimes that happens after a laminectomy. He gave me Darvocet 100-650 for the pain and a steroid pack to hopefully settle everything down. My symptoms are that I cannot turn over in bed, can't turn my body at waist level, can't walk without pain. My surgery was March 5th and for the first month I did much better than now. If the steroid pack don't do the trick I'll be getting another MRI to see what is going on.

So today I've taken a Darvocet and it has made me have nausea. This is not that strong a pain killer and I thought I could handle it. Wrong!!!! Is there anything I can take for the nausea or does anyone know of a pain killer that does not make you sick.

My two best solutions for avoiding the nausea are:

(1) take each pill with a rice krispie treat. I buy them pre-packaged and they seem to line my stomach well and work every time.
(2) take each pill with a flavord rice cake (like quaker makes). Also seems to help.

I do get nauseous with vicodin/darvocet or even advil/aspirin/alleve if I don't take something first.

If that doesn't work consider requesting another medication. If you are home and not worried about some side effects like sleepiness there is also compazine or phenergan you can get from your doctor.

Sorry to hear you're going through all this!

Honestly, for me at least, all prescriptions give me some type of stomach upset/nasuea. I switched from Percocet to Vicoden to many other types of drugs, nothing made much of a difference. The best you can do is try and limit head movement - I found if I tried to move around alot (even in bed) I would get nauseous. Take them on a very full stomach, and keep your stomach full. At least - that helped for me. Make sure you eat every 3 hours or so (even something small), and carbs+sugar worked best for me.

Not great advice from a weight perspective, but when you're in that kind of pain, small things like weight gain are the last thing on your mind.

I hope I helped out! When you're in so much pain already, this on top of everything can be so frustrating. Hang in there!

Take care!
