I looked on Google and it says the US soldiers did not have helmets until 1917 and those may have been bought from England. I've got a brown, sandy rough helmet that is marked U C 340.
I'm not sure it that means "unit C 340".
Then on Ebay someone was asking a seller about the lining and what was inside the lining. Mine is very clear. There is a "16" then A.J. Bates Co., Webster, Mass. 10-18
They made the liners for the US helmets.
Is this a "doughboy" helmet?
or a British helmet with a US made liner from A.J. Bates?
