Need help with mongoose bike?

My cuzin was riding my bike and he shifted the gears and the back wheel locked up and the rear derailleur (gear shifter thing) is totally busted.

Ive been looking for a while and am not sure what derailleur to buy.
Is there anyone who knows about mongoose bikes and can help me?

the derailer is made by Shimano.
the type is "Altus" but i searched altus on a few sites and there were many different types and i dont know which one to get =(
 
I'm pretty positive any of the Shimano derailers are compatible and if your bike was from Walmart *no offense* any of the after market derailers u purchase shud be as good or better then the original... I'm gessing your cousin shifted the derailer into the spokes... happens ALL the time no matter how good the setup... If ur thinking about replacing this part u shud have ur local bike tech help u out
