Hello,
I was diagnosed with IBS and after changing my diet and all nothing helped, so my Dr. asked me about anxiety and I began to realize I have pretty bad anxiety alot. The Dr. gave me Lexapro and I never took it. I thought I could do this on my own but I have been feeling worse.

I feel like everytime I even step out of my house I feel sick. I get like the shakes and a stomache ache like i'm nervous when I don't feel nervous. It's kinda strange. It's like I have anxiety for no reason and when I try and relax it doesn't help. I was thinking of starting to take the Lexapro but I read up on it and I'm scared.

I'm not sure I can deal with the first 2 weeks when you feel worse from side effects (since i work and go to school). I am also worried about the weight gaining issue that a lot of people seem to be talking about when on Lexapro.

Thanks

I'm still somewhat of a newbie when it comes to these presciptions, been on Paxil for 3 months. But I want to give you my thoughts.

Paxil is supposedly one of the most well known for causing people to gain weight but I haven't gained any weight from it. You may not gain any from the Lexapro. I do get night sweats and feel more tired during the day. All I can say is, I'll take those side effects anyday over worrying and being sick to my stomach. After a month or two you may feel great and really like taking the Lexapro. I guess I'm saying you have to decide if getting rid of the anxiety would be worth the side effects if there even are any. And if you don't like any of the side effects just let your doctor know. He/She can give you something else to try.

Amanda, I felt the same way that you did when I first starting taking medication. I was scared to death of the side effects. I can honestly tell you that the side effects are never as bad as the horror stories you read. I've taken Zoloft, Paxil, and I'm now on Lexapro. The side effects were minimal for all of these drugs. The worst side effects I had (about 2 weeks) was a queezy stomach, loss of appetite, and headache. Also, I do remeraber my anxiety increased, however, I think this was psychosomatic because I was worried about the side effects. Paxil and now Lexapro has given me back a normal life, free of anxiety and depression, and greater sense of well being. A lot research went into these medications to help those of us with debilitating anxiety and depression. The kind you are now experiencing. Please don't let the worry about the side effects keep from experiencing a greater sense of well being in just 3-4 weeks. Best Wishes!!

Hey everyone thanks for your help. And my Dr. did talk about taking it at the same time everyday and stuff, I just never actually started taking it.

I started taking lexapro about 4 days ago. I am also on a pain medication called arthrotec. I have had severe nausea but i am almost 100% certain that its because of the arthrotec. I don't even know whats wrong with me, and only have 3 more days left of the pain meRAB. The only things i have felt is nausea and loss of appetite. They say you feel better with in 1-2 weeks. and even more so with in 4-6. Best of luck.

Hey there anxiety sufferer, I too suffer from this since forever it seems. I haven't been on here since 2006 it shows but it was a year before that I finally got some help with my problem. My dr put me on 10mg of Lexapro AND 1mg of Lorazapam. It saved my life and I did not gain weight and I almost felt human again after 2 days... i no longer take Lexapro (over a year) but if I ever needed something again I'd do it in a heartbeat! Everyones makeup is different and it might not be for you but try something to get rid of that awful feeling. Mind over matter doesn't work for everyone. jjules
