My sister gave us her aquarium and fish for our daughter. There are 7 small fish in a 30 gallon tank. I don't know what they are so I will try best to describe them. My husband is meticulous about keeping the tank clean and changing water. Fish descriptions:
1. There are 2 gold colored with single black stripe on top and tail fins. They are about 1.5 inches.
2. There are 2 solid gold colored fish that are somewhat flat looking. One is about 1 inch, other is close to 2.5 inches.
3. There are 2 blue fish with black stripes on their bodies vertically. They are 1 and 1.5 inches.
4. There's one solid black sucker fish.
The problems:
A. The large solid gold and large blue fish are nipping at the tails of all the smaller gold colored fish.
B. One of the gold colored with black stripe has no tail left- just a nub.
C. The large solid gold and large blue fish are occasionally shaking like a seizure for a moment and running clumsily into things.

These fish have been kept in this tank since she got them 2 years ago. No new fish have been added. We have had them for 5 months and have not changed the way we care for them. This behavior just started a couple days ago. I read some q&a sites and am wondering if the two bigger fish may be aggressive due to pregnancy- if so can I seperate them together? Will the tail grow back on the other fish?

I think one of the first things you should do is figure out what kinds of fish these are. This will help us greatly in figuring out the problems.

Obviously there is aggressions towards other fishes in your tank so if you can get a makeshift divider to put in your tank, separate the aggressive fish from the injured, this will temporarily fix the problem.

Does you and your husband know about the Aquarium Nitrogen cycle? It's very crucial in knowing about this in order to keep a healthy tank for your fish.

Please check out the web sites and search for the fish that look like your so you can get back to us.
