I'm having trouble with inductive circuits. I have a diagram of a 600 ohm resistor R in parallel with a 300 ohm Xof L (inductive). I am supposed to asume 600 volts for the applied voltage V. What is the total Z? I dont understand how to combine the ohms.

Find the current from what is given. Then that information can be used in the formula for total current.

Current of R = 600/600 = 1 amp

Current of L = 600/300 = 2 amp

I total = ?(Ir² + Ii²) = ?(1² + 2²)

= ?(1 + 4) = ?(5) = 2.236 A

Z,total = V,applied/I,total = 600V/2.236A

= 268.3 ohms
