I am at the end of my rope - I'm not sure what's going on with my back, but here's the history - Septeraber my tailbone started hurting when I sat in a different chair for a class. Then it was sciatica pain that was excrutiating. Took muscle relaxers which helped, then went to a chiropractor which helped. When I started feeling better I stopped the chiropractor. The pain came back and went to see a spine specialist. They did an MRI and it came back with these results:

Facet joint arthropathy at L5-S1 results in grade 1 anterolisthesis by 5mm. Results in mild bilateral foraminal narrowing but no spinal stenosos. There may be a pars interarticularis defect on left of this level.
Mild degenerative disc disease changes are seen at the remainder of the levels with small disc bulges that slightly efface the ventral aspect of the thecal sac but result in no significant spinal stenosis or foraminal narrowing.

Anyway, the spine specialist told me that he couldn't find a reason for the tailbone/sciatica pain. He referred me to a pain management specialist. While I was waiting for the appointment with the pain dr I found a large lump under the skin on my buttock in the same area as the sciatic pain. Went to a general surgeon and had it removed last week. It was a fatty tumor about the size of a plum.

I thought that the removal of this would have stopped the problem, but I am having the sciatica again, this time on both sides of buttock, terrible tailbone pain.

Anyone have any idea what is going on? I made an appointment to see the spine specialist again tomorrow.

Thanks so much,

Sciatic pain is caused by the sciatic nerve being comprimised. Something is pressing on that nerve that is giving you the pain. It could be a miuscle or a disc. when you can get that releaved and the swelling down, the pain will eventually go away.

Hopefully your doc will find something to releave the pain. There are meRAB that work specifically on nerve pain. Normal pain meRAB don't touch it. Good luck.
