Can anybody suggest a good filtration system for a 20 gallon fresh water fish tank with about a half dozen fish? Preferably something that has a reputation for running quiet.
Fluval's are one of the best brands you can buy and they come with warranty. You can get them in most countries, and while you do have to definitely pay for the quality (they are sort of expensive) it is well worth it as you won't need to upgrade your filter as often. I've never had one break on me, and that's the reason they give you such a long warranty because the product is good enough to have one.
You could also do a Penguin 150 Bio-wheel (up to 30G filtration). It is a hang on back filter, cartridges are really easy to replace and it is quiet. This might not be as good as the Fluval, but it has worked well for me and is a bit cheaper. But if you have the extra money to spend I would go for the Fluval.
