I have a Chevy Impala that the Engine Hot A/C Compressor off Alert started coming on and staying on. This is even when it has not been started overnight and I know the engine isn't hot. Does anyone know possibly what it could be that is causing it to do this? According to the book it says that when this Alert comes on it means the antifreeze is hot but not the engine and it can still be run as normal. Would it be the thermostat or some sensor that would be causing the car to do this?

I have your engine temperature sensor tested. It measures the coolant temp. to ensure the engine isn't overheating. The reason is shuts down the AC is cause the AC puts a bigger thermal load on the engine. Now it could be a sensor itself or a broken wire or a bad ECU.
