need help wit dis sidekick 08 please help?

well my friend gave m,e a sidekick 08 with no battery but the 08 has a little bit of water damage like its pik a little... but wen i put a battery in it every thing work but the screen just dont show the buttons light up and everything but the screen is just always black i need help
