Hey there

I've been trying to update my W960i, since I haven't done a single update since I've bought it. I've been following the instructions, downloading the SE update service, and after some problem with adobe flash i finally got the update service running.

When i start the update service, everything runs fine until i come to the part where i have to turn my phone off and remove batteries and all that. It's when i have to press and hold the "C" button where nothing happens. My phone comes with a quick bluish flash on the screen and that's it.

Windows keep popping up with a new hardware has been found, but even if i got the software cd (which i got with the phone) is in the pc, it can't find the necessary drivers. Maybe it has something to do with it, although the SE Media Manager works fine with the phone.

I've tried googling it, but can't seem to find anything related to this problem. Now i'm hoping if one of you could give me a helping hand into this problem.

I have Vista 64-bit on my pc, if it has anything to do with it.

I find the update service can be a little picky to operate. Quite often, the software will not detect the phone first time. Make sure that with your battery out you are holding 'C' AND plugging in the cable at the same time. Even after the cable is plugged in, do NOT let go of 'C' until prompted to do so. I have made this mistake many a time on all 3 on my SE phones. Good luck ;) .

Now i got it working.

I tried updating my phone from another pc, which also had Windows XP installed, and that worked perfectly. My guess is the update service doesn't support Vista 64-bit :(

No suprises there then - Vista 64-bit can be a hell of an operating system to live with sometimes. Luckily in this instance, Sony Ericsson don't bring out firmware updates too often, so if Windows XP isn't readily available to you, don't worry, as you won't need to update too often. Even if you do have do wait to apply an update, you're not missing out on much. Most firmware updates just adjust the smoothness of the phone's OS, the volumes and the camera drivers. The changes are usually minor enough that you don't even need to have them to enjoy your phone any more than you already do. Congrats on getting it working anyway :) .
