NEED HELP: Setting wallpaper for HTC Hero from Sprint?!?

I just got my HTC about a month ago and everytime I try to set a wallpaper to my home screen, it crops the picture and not only that, the picture stretches enormously. How do I get around this?! Is there a way to remove the cropping box? I have already tried setting the pic to 320x455 but when I try to set it, it still crops it. HELP pleeeeeeaseeee? :O
