Need help replacing the speakers/amp/receiver in my '86 Toyota 4Runner?

My dad put an aftermarket receiver in (Clarion or some such), as well as two speakers in the back and a 100W amp. The amp isn't nearly enough to power the speakers at high volume so I want to replace the amp with something better; I know all the wires etc. are already in place. Is it as simple as plugging the wires into the new amp? Also, I want to replace the speakers in the back. Wires have already been run back there to the speakers; can I just connect the new speakers to the old wires? I want a new radio receiver to replace the old one, but it says I need the factor brackets which I'm not sure I have... do I need these? What exactly are these? Thanks!
