Need Help Installing Ford Brake Pads 2004 Ford Taurus?

I am replacing my brake pads on my Ford Taurus. It has disc brakes all around. I got the tool needed to rotate the caliper back in to spread open the caliper. I have been turning that thing clockwise now for 20 minutes and its not going in. Whats the trick? Its hard to put pressure on it because there is no place I can set the caliper down. Please no answers like "take it to the shop" Thanks
