What developments in the Middle Ages lessened the importance of the bonds between feudal lords and their vassals?

The Black Plague (or sometimes called The Black Death) had an enormous impact on the bonds between feudal lords and their vassals. Bubonic Plague wiped out 25% of the human population worldwide.

the development of a middle class through increase of trading of goods greatly weakened this bond. the crusades was a majoring factor to bringing around a change in the economy through trade goods, ideas and inventions they brought back from the middle east.
