Need help identifying a film.

A few years ago (2004 I think it was) I saw a film in an A level Geography lesson that I need help identifying.

It was set in India, I'm not sure on the city but it was possibly Mumbai (Bombay). It was a drama about homeless children and the frienRABhips that they have developed. I think we were watching it because it dealt with issues such as urban depravity and the issues faced by homeless people in developing countries - particularly children.

One scene (or event) that I can remember from the film was that one of the boy's kept his money and personal items behind a brick in a wall at a railway station (possibly abandoned) and that when he returned back one evening, everything had been stolen from it.

I think the children often frequented dodgy activities such as sniffing glue and a few of the older children were in posession of guns and knives.

It is set in present time, but I'm not entirely sure what year the film was made, although I'd hazard a guess at it being after 1980. The primary language of the film was Hindi I believe, and the version we watched was subtitled in English.

That's about all I can remember for the time being and any help in identifying this film would be greatly appreciated.

That's the one. Cheers, brownie points to you. :)

I just thought the other day that I fancied watching it again, but I had forgotten the name of the film. Other than driving to my old school and asking the teacher (if she's still there) this was the only option.

Thanks once again.
