Our car broke down in our driveway about a week ago. I would call some one to come out and fix it, but would like to be able to tell them what is possibly the problem with it. Unfortunately, i have yet to figure out what that problem may be. That's where you come in.
I filled the tank up and on the way home, the fuel gauge wasn't really rising (it was, just very very slowly... my first hint of a problem). The next day, as i am just getting ready to leave, i jump in the car and go to start it, and low and behold, it doesn't start. It sounded like it was going to, but never turns over.
I do a bit of online research and check all the things other people suggest... checking fuses, making sure i've got gas (i let the car sit in the on position, and the fuel gauge finally climbed to full), hitting the dash/steering column/other choice places in strategic places, but none of these "solutions" solved any of my car woes. As the week passed, i tried unsuccessfully starting the car, hoping something has changed. And today, something did!
I read somewhere that you can reset the smart lock by leaving the key in the ignition for 30 minutes and then the car should start. So i gave it a try...
And guess what? something was different.
Now if only it were a "good" different.
This time, the car wouldn't even crank... like maybe all the attempts at starting the car over the last week finally did the battery in.
So my question (finally!):
Has anyone had similar trouble with their ford falcon/ford car with smart lock? does anyone know the correct sequence for resetting the smart lock?? and does anyone have any other suggestions on what could be wrong with this horrible machine?
random other tidbits of knowledge that may help diagnose problem:
check engine light does not come on when trying to start
the temperature gauge light is now lit up
now, when i attempt to start it, the fuel gauge drops to empty, and as soon as i stop turning the key, it shoots back to full.
ok so i know this is a long shot, im probably not going to get any help, but i figured i would try...
