Need help! - 09 street glide - not buffeting!

Man I need help eliminating, or redirecting the air that is getting under my shirt and ballooning it out like a parachute. This happens with buttoned or regular t shirts. My bandanna blows up over my face as well.

I've ridden for over 40 years without a windshield or fairing and have never had this problem.

This problem - and it is a problem - started when I bought my SG. I love everything else about it but this is to the point that I'm getting back on my Fatboy to ride more all the time.

The problem I'm trying to describe isn't buffeting. This air feels like it's coming from under the bike because if I tuck my shirt between my legs and sit on it it seems to help but not eliminate the problem. Turning my bandanna around helps but it still works its way back around front then I have to stuff it in my mouth which helps but still blows all over my face. Man it's just crazy!

I put the air deflector under the lower triple tree, the vents on the side of the fairing, and nothing seems to help. I have a stock 4" windshied and hope that's not involved because I like it.

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Tuck your shirt in.

One of those wind deflectors that mounts between the fork legs will help a little bit as well. I put one on my RK, and I could tell a difference, but it doesn't divert all of the air.

Wind deflectors mounted on each fork. These babies killed all the turbulence from my waist to my chin. Use these along with a decent windshield, like a Clearview 6.5" or 8" recurve, and you can light a cigar while you're riding.

I got those wind deflectors, they work pretty good. I got the fork baffle and it works pretty good, and I have the Kuryakyn fairing ones too and they work pretty good.

They all work together pretty good, but then again I guess that they should consdering that the three things cost $200 bucks.

get a Klockwerks or other brand flared windshield. The flare at the top keeps the air from flowing over the shield and down to the tank and up your body.

As mentioned previous - tuck your shirt in. Or at least tuck a little of the front under your belt. Same thing happens to me especially with a lose fitting shirt. If the tails on a collared shirt are long enough I sit on them. A vest also eliminates ballooning.

Hello, I live in Brazil and I have a Harley Road King Classic 2010.like much performance, I've had Shovel and Evolution are excellent motores. Now I Have Twin Cam 96.Importei'm on a set of 54 cans Andrews H Geare drive, Andrews moly pushrods , SE 110 Headset (17251-07) and a big bore kit SE 103 python shirt and STD 3875. "TUCK YOUR SHIRT IN!" Now why didn't I think of that?! HAHAHA! And then I could tuck my bandanna in my shirt I guess - or hell I could just go bare back and dress when I arrive! HAHAHA!

I bought a new bike - not new clothes - and I didn't change the way I wear my clothes. Same helmet, same everything.

It has to have something to do with the added fairing or windshield I'm thinking. NOT A PROBLEM ON MY FAT BOY WITHOUT THEM.

I've tried all the suggestions made here with the exception of the flared windshied (hope they have them in 4") and the fork mounted deflectors which I'm not wild about the looks of. (not saying they don't look good on other's bikes)

I appreciate everyone taking time offering suggestions to help me solve my problem. Think I'll check into the windshield and if that doesn't work I'll be making somebody a deal on a 09 SG they can't turn down. MAYBE THAT'S WHY IT ONLY HAD 800 MILES ON IT A MONTH AGO WHEN I BOUGHT IT! thx again

My 2 Cents:

Riding a RoadKing, Softail, etc without a windshield... the wind goes all around you & is not directed towards you like a bike with a Fairing.

- The front fairing directs the air downwards & the wheel acts like a rudder & splits the airflow to both sides of the bike. Its directed to the inside of the engine guards.
- The Fairing creates a large negative air bubble behind it & this draws the airflow from under the tank upwards towards your chest.
- Riding with your legs out will increase this airflow direction towards your chest.
- The small defector mounted to the lower triple trees helps some
- The chrome fork mounted deflectors help more
- The small side wings that attach to the inner fairing will help some as well
- The best is the full lower leg fairings that come on the Ultra
- A leather vest or jacket reduces the feel of the air. So does well fitting glasses

The fairing & front end is a poor aerodynamic design & theres not much more that can be done

I would try a taller windshield, something in a 8"-10"; I don't see the shirts of Electra Glide riders billowing up when they ride.
