I am leaving for BCT/OSUT at Ft. Benning, GA on January 20th. I am going to be going in as an 11X and I am hoping to get into Airborne School after AIT. I can get a 300 on my APFT already. My recruiter doesn't answer much of anything for me so I figured I would ask them on here.
1. What are my chances of getting into Airborne School after AIT? I know that I have to volunteer but I have heard that sometimes they don't need any people.
2. What are my chances in being stationed at either Ft. Benning, GA or Ft. Drum, NY? I understand that I get to fill out a "Dream Sheet/Wish List" while at Processing but what are the odds of me getting to be stationed at any of these places?
3. How far ahead of most new recruits am I with having a 300 APFT already, before my OSUT starts? I hear that some people can do this already and some are extremely out of shape.
4. What are the odds of me getting deployed as soon as I get to my Base that I am to be stationed at? I want to get a few deployments and have the experience before my career progresses further.
5. How much spare time do most soldiers have when they are on base after work and all? I am the type of person that really likes to work out so I will be wanting to do so after I get off duty. Will I have time to go club a little?
6. What should I look into buying when I first get on base? I already have my own laptop so that is covered. Any advice?
I apologize for all of the questions. I would really like if a few Active Duty Soldiers could answer these for me since they will have the experience and knowledge of it all.
Thank You.
I have already signed and oathed in so, according to my recruiter, I cannot change my contract to get Airborne School in it.
And I am very good when it comes to handling money. I have it set up so that a third of my monthly pay goes into my savings and I dont plan on getting a car for at least a year or until i return from a deployment. I am not the type of person that gets into a lot of trouble either. So I will most likely be okay in that area
