Need a temporary Verizon phone while I wait for the good stuff

Was hoping someone here could help me out with this. Right now I'm using an ancient LG VX6000, but I need to get an EVDO phone for tethering purposes for work. I've been waiting for that darn VX8600 for too long, and now I see the Samsung U710 on the horizon which looks killer. So here's what I'm looking to do, if possible. Since I'm out of contract, I would like to buy a used phone that has as many of these features as possible, in this order of importance, for a cheap price...

1) EVDO Technology
2) Good reception
3) Basic Bluetooth Headset Capability

I realize that's asking for a lot, but I'm not concerned about style, extra's, form factor or anything else. Just looking for a cheap, reliable phone that will get me through the next few months while I wait to see what's really going to show up on the Verizon shelves without locking myself into a contract.

Any ideas???

I would try the 8300. A friend of mine just got one and it looks like a nice phone. Has all the things your looking for. Also look in to the V3m too. That phone gets nice reception and the prices are coming down on Ebay for it.

Dang, looking between about $140 and $200 shipped for those. Did some research and found out the oldest EV-DO phones are the VX8000, A890 and E815. I can pick those up for around $100. But hell, at that point, I might as well look into a 1 year contract and just deal with a new phone. Only thing is I can't for the life of me figure out how to look up the 1 year contract prices on verizons site. Everything is for 2 years.

I wasn't sure from your OP what your price range was. Those two phones that I listed have been out less then six months, and with the features listed it would be hard to find them for under $150.00.
I have always done my upgrades in the store, so I can see how the phone looks and sounds before I buy it. I agree that 1 year contracts are hard to come by on line, but you can always call and order over the phone.

Also you can order the E815 on Motorola's web site for less then $150.00 by using this November code that I received in the mail.( free shipping on this item as well) Code: NOV2134. You would not have to extend your contract with Verizon in order to get this price.

Checked out the 1 year prices today. Now I'm back to my ebay idea. For the money they want for 1 year contracts, I could buy a phone off of ebay, use it for a few months and then get 60% of my money back by selling it again. Plus I could upgrade whenever I want to. I'll have to think about this.

Oh, my wife has the e815 and LOVES it. It's a nice phone, but it's missing one major feature that amazes me. Unless I'm an idiot, I can not find a notepad in there. That is something I can't be without.
