Need a nice waterproof rucksack for hiking. What is 900D fabric?

I'm going on a 10 week expedition to India from July to September. From what I can gather, this is partly the rainy season, so I may be spending some days walking in non-stop rain. I've got a kit list of all the items I'll need, and obviously one of the things is a rucksack, at least 85l - but I'd rather it was larger, more like 100l so I can fit things in comfortably.

So I'm hunting around for a good one. Can anyone find any suggestions, no higher than £80? I've found this http://www.genuinearmysurplus.co.uk/products/detail/rowid=762 which I like, but can't tell if it's waterproof? What does '900D' fabric mean?!? If it's not waterproof, how reliable are the separate waterproof rucksack covers that you can buy from most town centres?

I'm also interested in this http://www.genuinearmysurplus.co.uk/products/detail/rowid=753 but to be honest it seems a bit more 'softcore' and the "for guides and scouts" line doesnt really sell it to me. But it does have an in-built waterproof cover.

Ideally I want a bag that is sized in the region of 100l, is waterproof or can easily have a waterproof cover attached, and has plenty of separate compartments/straps/pockets for ease of access to all my items. And generally don't want it to cost more than £80, preferably cheaper really.
