so i need a new phone really bad. Have had a nokia n75 for 3 years and really need to upgrade. Im in orange county california and currently have att but willing to switch carriers for a good phone.

Things I need in a phone:
able to watch avi's (the format u get torrented stuff in usually) and wmv and stuff
3g
good camera, 3+ mp
decent battery life
gps (not super impo)
internal mem of 4GB+ would be great, but microsd is fine too
1 ghz processor is really desired, but is okay if thats the only thing missing

Also i dont like touch (have sweat palms) but it seems like all teh good phones are so i guess ill have to manage. also id like qwerty but those just seem to be dissapearing.

as for os android would be my first pic and im definatley not a windows fan!

pricewise im hoping for under 400 but if its not subsidized through a carrier or w/e willing to go up to 800.

Ive been trying to get a new phone for a while but every time something i have my eye on comes out it disappoints. first was getting the sony X1 then nokia n900, n97 and those all disappointed. Finally was set on xperia x10 for a while but the review says bad vid codex support??

PLS PLS PLS help me out!!!!! =)

Touch, Android, 1GHz Snapdragon: Nexus One ($529, unsubsidized-only)

Touch, Android, QWERTY: Unlocked Telus Motorola Milestone ($600-750 on eBay, unsubsidized-only)

Non-Touch, QWERTY: BlackBerry Bold 9700 ($0.01 subsidized)

thanks for the feedback!! but the nexus one doesnt have divx or xvid support so i doubt it will play most avi files from torrents and such. same for the milestone. the bold dosent really have any attractive features that i want.

Really?

[x] It'll play all of your formats.
[x] It has 3G.
[x] It has a pretty decent 3.2 megapixel camera, better quality than the 8900 had despite having the same megapixel count.
[x] It has AMAZING battery life, beating out everything I've ever used including dumbphones.
[x]It has GPS.
[x]It has an internal microSD slot.
[x]It's non-touch and has a full QWERTY.

The only requirements of yours that it doesn't meet is the 1GHz processor. If the 9700 doesn't have any of the attractive features you want, then you have to go back and edit what you want.

Also another fallacy in your requirements is that you say you want the Android OS, but suddenly you mention you need XViD/DiVX support. I hate to break it to you buddy, but if the Nexus One doesn't have it, then no other Android device out there will. ProTip: you can get apps to play back any media format you want, not sure if rooting is required though.

I'm sorry to say your only recourse for out-of-the-box phones may be the HTC HD2. Or HTC Touch Pro2. Both are WinMo 6.5. Or a mediaphone with a dumbphone OS, but that isn't much fun.

ok woah no need to get so agressive. im just lookin for some options here. i had a poor choice of words. the bold isnt physically attractive to me. and the screen is not big (i realize i didnt list that in my op but i cant find an edit button).

yea it is hard to find xvid divx support on android, but its not not there. the samsung galaxy has it and the samsung beam will. i dont kno of any app on android that do that job. im just lookin for options, if theres nothing out that has that i dont mind waiting for a while.

and yes u r right mediaphone with dumbphone as is no fun. I am considering the hd2 tho just the nast winmo is turning me off to it.

I apologize if I came off aggressive. My intention was to get you to be more clear so you can find something you like more easily. It would've made sense that you'd like a big screen if you're so focused on video playback. I can vouch that the video playback on the 9700 is wonderful though.. head-to-head against the iPhone 3GS I actually prefer the Bold since it natively plays back most every format and has a higher resolution.

Though you shouldn't let looks deter you if it's a serious phone capable of getting the job done. ;)

You're right, the Galaxy Spica I5700 does support DiVX.. that was my mistake.

The HTC Incredible popped up again. It's the HD2 with Android. No word on DiVX AFAIK.

its alright. txt has a horrible way of conveying emotion at times. well i will give some serious consideration to the bold. i think i can upgrade to it for free.

hmmm yea i did some lookin and it seems the galaxy, incredibe/evo r the only ones that do or mostlikly will support divx/xvid. sadly coreplayer seems a long ways from done.
