Alright, well my ROKR that I have LOVED for the past few months is really starting to go down hill. (frequent lock-ups, iTunes on the phone has slowed down to a crawl) So, I'm looking for a replacement.
I'm trying to decide between the Audiovox SMT5600 and the Motorola MPX220.
Before I say anything else...yes, I know these phones are ancient by todays standards. Theyre both cheap on eBay and have even more features than my ROKR, and I've been wanting a Smartphone for some time now.
*ehem*
The real things I'm looking to get out of my phone is MP3 playback, watch videos, maybe take a few pictures but quality isn't really an issue for me.
The SMT5600 seems to get lots of rave reviews, and I was leaning towards that for a while. But I've gotten to where I don't really like candy-bar phones...I don't like it that if you drop the phone, the screen is the first thing to get trashed. This doesn't mean I hate candy-bar style, I just prefer flips.
I'm also not sure about the joystick on 5600...but I guess I could get used to it.
I like the MPX220 because its Motorola, and my past two phones (including the ROKR) were both Motos and I loved them for their durability, call quality and RF.
I'm a little shaky about it though, as it seems to be a mixed bag and gets mixed reviews. I've heard that the speakerphone quality sucks, and that if I get it...I'll have to perform brain surgery (ie modding) to get it up to par with other phones. (I've heard I'll have to do a lot to get the earpiece volume higher)
I've done some modding with my V551 before, so I guess it wouldn't bother me that much as long as I don't have to do anything REALLY extensive.
I have some questions:
1) What formats does WMP10 play that WM9 can't? I know WM9 can't play protected WMAs but I don't buy my tunes from Media Player anyway so I guess it doesn't matter. Is there any real advantage that makes WM10 a far better choice?
I've also heard that the MPX can be upgraded with WMP10...is this true?
2) On the MPX, can you play music with the flip closed?
3) How durable is the 220? Some people say it feels cheap and plasticky, while others say it feels really sturdy.
4) Is the speakerphone/earpiece volume really that bad?
I'd love input on this...I'm really torn on what to do.
Thanks in advance!
