I am going to the Mayo Clinic for neck pain and they have recommended having a fusion of C1 & C2. I am a 67 year old female that has always led a very active life. This past year has been horrible, as I have had chronic neck and shoulder pain on the right side. I have tried physical therapy, chiropractic, and injections - all to little improvement. I have been told that the back of my neck will be permanently nurab and that it is also possible that I might wind up with chronic pain, not to mention possibilities of problems that might occur duing surgery, i.e., damaging a blood vessel, stroke, or death! They apparently have a new piece of equipment that provides the physician with 3-d vision during the procedure. The recovery time is estimated to be 3 - 6 months with a 3 - 5 day hospital stay. I will also be wearing some type of collar. Has anyone had experience with this type of surgery? Any reedback from someone that has used the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL?
