nc gas supply

In the Charlotte Observer and on TV they are saying it is very bad. Just speaking for me, I wouldn't even attempt it this weekend. Lots of stations here and in Charlotte have nothing or a very limited amount. The good news, at least for me was that 93 octane was still available two days ago although I've heard people are buying whatever they can get now. You're taking a chance.

Gas is not looking good in Asheville. My dad says that very few gas stations get filled back up and when they do it gets drained in less than a day. They are told that it will all get fixed by today but most of the residents are skeptic.

Good luck.

What's causing the gas shortage out there? Is it leftover from hurricane Ike? Just curious because there is nothing in the news out here of gas problems anywhere. Hopefully that all gets worked out soon.

There are two major pipelines that feed NC gasoline. They go to terminals in Charlotte, Greensboro and near Raleigh (Selma maybe) I think. The gas to the mountains most likely comes out of the Charlotte area is my guess and supplies are down to about 70% or less compared with normal deliveries. And yes, this is a continuation of the problems caused by Ike combined with panic buying and topping off tanks out of fear. A friend works for the pipeline company and he says the pipeline itself is fine, there's just nothing to put in it. Refineries topped up tanks before the hurricane to help withstand the storm, that guess is delivered to the lines but then it takes a while to ramp the refineries back up to speed. Well, that is the story we're told anyway. Quite honestly I don't believe it takes 10 days to get a refinery back up and running but I don't work at once so that's just an opinion.

There was finally something in the news here about the gas problems over there. Hopefully they get that worked out pretty soon. That's gotta suck!!
