I'm just wondering how quickly one could expect to advance in Rates (E1 > E2 > E3 etc.) in the Navy as an enlisted sailor. I assume it is primarily based on performance and tenure, but even so, how quickly could I expect to advance as a fresh enlistee (Lets just say say I do a good job and never get in trouble)?
Also, I asked a question a little while ago regarding housing. Does anybody know if you get a housing allowance just starting out or do you have to advance further? Someone said you need to be at E4 before you get a housing allowance. I'm single and without children by the way.
