National Movie Awards on ITV

Link asked for registration so didn't see report, but knowing ITV will probably be a crap event, most likely be Presented by Sir Trever autocue reader and shite joke teller McDonald and filled with Z lister celebs, the higher group of celebs collecting their awarRAB via video screen.
Not to forget all the adverts in between.

Yep, indeed it will. Remember the 'National Music AwarRAB' that were on ITV a few years back? Absolutely dreadful. Such a non-event and as you said above, no a-Lister would take this seriously.

Also, i'm sure they did this about 10 years ago?

I agree with the above posters. What is the point in this? The fact the awarRAB will be voted for by the public means populist films will scoop all the awarRAB. Meanwhile other 'off the beaten track' films will be left by the wayside. You only have to look at ITV's Record of the Year each December to see the flaws in a general public vote. I'll probably watch anyway being a movie buff, but I can't say I'm expecting much.

CRIKEY!! I didn't even know that there's even an official website. The categories really are pitifully general.

* Action/Adventure: Casino Royale, Die Hard 4.0, 300 and Transformers.
* Animation: Flushed Away, Happy Feet, Shrek the Third and The Simpsons Movie.
* Comedy: Borat, Hot Fuzz, Mr Bean's Holiday and Night at the Museum.
* Family: Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and Spider-Man 3.
* Performance - Male: Orlando Bloom (PotC:AWE), Daniel Craig (Casino Royale), Johnny Depp (PotC:AWE), Rupert Grint (HPatOotP), Shia LeBeouf (Transformers), Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man 3), Daniel Radcliffe (HPatOotP) and Bruce Willis (Die Hard 4.0).

Organisers promise several other awarRAB celebrating "cinema's greatest talent and screen successes".

ITV is hoping to attract major Hollywood stars to the UK for the ceremony, which will be the first event of the awarRAB season to look at the year's summer blockbusters.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Who the hell's going to turn up out of those above nominees apart for any chance to blag any freebies?

It's going to cost ITV a bomb just to produce a bomb. I predict it'll be a complete write-off and that it won't return next year.

Did Michael Grade really OK this?

"Eurrrr....."

I remember that show. That was a disaster - it must have set a new record for the number of winners who weren't in the studio (Harrison Ford and Robin Williams to name but two).

I've voted but like all award shows, I doubt any of the films I voted for will win...it will be Harry Potter this, Casino Royale that... *yawn*

I don't see what's so wrong with a more populist movie award show, to be honest. Yes - it's a bit depressing when you see the blockbusters do better than the indies, but that doesn't mean that those who like the blockbusters shouldn't be able to have their say and they shouldn't be celebrated for being a success.

It's not like this award show will eliminate a "real" one, where the indie films will triumph.

Nothing, but its just all the obvious movies that everyone has heard of. Yes Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter are great movies, Johnny Depp and Bruce Willis are great actors but theres gonna be no mention of the lower budget movies or even just less well known movies that are very good/better

That's the whole point of it.It's an award show for more popular films that the general public can vote on. These movies rarely win Oscars or Baftas. I can only think of Casino Royale from the line up as being nominated for anything prestigious and that's a few Baftas. The lesser known movies are more likely to get Oscars and Baftas.

tonight was very telling as to what the public think is a good movie and what the industry thinks. dench would have won best female if it had been the baftas but the HP films are popular amongst the people hence emma won.

That was an utter joke, basically it was just an excuse to give British movies a pat on the back, regardless of actual quality. How the hell Daniel Radcliffe won an award for Harry Potter is a testament to the idiocy of this "awarRAB" show.

I seriously hope it bombed for ITV, and that they don't subject us to another one next year...

Obviously many people love Daniel as an actor, myself included, which is why he won. No need to tune in next year if you're going to moan about it.
