National Lampoon's ...

i know that they are more of a distribution company nowadays, but i still do think if you see a film that is "National Lampoon's presents .." you have a certain expectation of what the film will be like, and invariably you're utterly wrong.

I watched a film earlier called "National Lampoon's presents 'The beach party at the threshold of hell'".

it was basically an ultra low budget black comedy about .. well .. i don't really know. it was bloody awful.

but it wasn't funny either (in my humble opinion) - and you kind of expect a decent comedy when it has the National Lampoon's label attached to it.

but then I saw another N.L. a few years ago called "Adam and Eve" which i really liked because it was a nice little comedy about a college girl who wanted to remain a virgin until she was married - cheesy premise i know, but i really liked it. great soundtrack, reasonably funny and satisfying ending.

But still nothing you'd really associate with National Lampoons.

But anyway .. that's my rant over :D

Remember the scene in 'European Vacation' when Eric Idle gets run over by Chevy Chase - I always thought it was a rip off from the 'Black Knight' scene in Holy Grail .

I thought National Lampoon's "Christmas Vacation" was pretty funny.Although it has been some time since i last saw it.A few months back National Lampoon's "Dad's Week Off" was on the tv.I was expecting to see Chevy Chase in it but he wasn't in it.It was Henry Winkler who had the main role.

That hasn't been the case for at least 20 years.
Similarly the Zucker brothers are no longer a guarantee of quality when attached to a new flick. Or indeed Mel Brooks.

The original Vacation was a good movie. I watched it endlessly 25 years ago... And of course Animal House is a classic. But I've not seen anything with that label on in years.

The only 'National Lampoon' I have seen is 'the Christmas Vacation' We watch it every Christmas (:o) without fail! It's almost like a tradition in our family (:p) and without it, it just isn't Christmas!

I have seen the trailer's for the new ones, and imo, they are just naff :(

National Lampoons have made some great movies over the years.

Animal House
All the Vacation Films
Van Wilder
Dorm Daze 1 & 2
Senior Trip still has me in stitches
