Don't worry you will get through it. Just listen to the Drill Sergeants and go along with them and you will be fine. You will probably have to get up around 4:30 every morning and conduct personal hygiene then go to formation for PT around 5:30am. You should do a lot of running, push ups, sit ups, some pull ups as well, and other various exercises.
Don't be scared or nervous. They treat you and train you the way they do to help get you mentally prepared to go through combat. Just be patient. Before you go off to Basic Combat Training you need to work on crunches, sit ups, push ups, pull ups, and running.
Use an elliptical trainer machine and up the resistance and ramp or just run two miles on a track and work on your two mile run. You have physical fitness tests you have to pass. Only the last one counts before you leave.
So when you work on push ups prop your feet up on a bench or something a little high off the ground and like 4 or 5 sets of ten, then up it to 20. That gets you strong in the ability to hold the push up position because you will be in the push up position holding it for a long period of time through out basic so prepare now. It's called the front lean of rest position if you didn't know already.
I'd advise you to work on your crunches and pull ups as well. They really help you with your push ups and many people don't realize this. You have to have strong abs to help run and do push ups, as you work your abs when you do them both. And the more pull ups you can do, you can do so much more push ups. Even if you can just do five pull ups that is better than nothing.
But be prepared for not that much sleep and you are going in the winter time so it's going to be cold as hell at Ft. Jackson, that's where I did my basic. I am in Korea now so it's going to get even colder. But just hang in there and be tough. It's not that hard.
You get to run around in your IBA and Kevlar, with your assault pack and ta 50 items in it as well. And do many road marches in that heavy gear. Which isn't that heavy once you get used to it. So you might want to go walk in a 20lb vest you can buy at wal*mart to help get you strong as well.
Do what I just said and you will be well prepared. By the way look the Soldiers Creed up and learn it before you go. You will need to know it.
I am an American Soldier
I am a warrior and member of a team
I serve the people of the United States and live the Army Values
I will always place the mission first
I will never accept defeat
I will never quit
I will never leave a fallen comrade
I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough
trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills
I am an expert and I am a professional
I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the United States Of America in close combat
I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life
I am an American Soldier!
You will probably have some fun at Basic as well. You get to throw grenades, shoot the m203, M240B, M249, AT-4, M-16, night vision fire, reflexive firing, march and shoot, convoy live fire, night infiltration course. Clearing rooms. Week long ftx in the freezing cold. Just do what they tell you and you will be fine. As the Drill Sergeants know what they are doing.
