the oil pump is mounted beside the motor on the drivers side and is belt driven off of the crankshaft ..if the pump was run off the drive shaft that would starve to motor of oil while the car was sitting still

yes the rearend gear cooler has a belt off of the drive shaft ..it is mighty early my friend

Where is the oil pump located on a Sprint Cup car, I think it runs off the drive shaft but not sure???

Hmm never thought about that little slow this morning so is it a diff cooler that the belt on the drive shaft runs?

There are two oil pumps, maybe that's where you are getting confused.

On mounts on the engine. This one circulates the oil in the engine.

The other mounts on the rear axle housing to pump differential fluid )gear oil) through a cooling system, then back into the rear end.

Good question.
