Which do you like better? Since I am new to Shippuden I will go with the original, although Shippuden seems great and I am hoping it comes to the U.S soon so I can experienced it dubbed. Whats your take?

LoL, I see how it is. I know, I know, it's hard when you love something so much. I have a hard time choosing too, I only chose the original because Ive seen more episodes than Shippuden, but I'm enjoying Shippuden so much that it could be a tie in no time.

I actullay prefer the original naruto manga over the shippuden manga.

But as for the show, im actullay leaning a little more towarRAB shippuden.

In terms of anime, I've gotta say Shippuden. I love it. The first arc was slow, but after that, the pace picked right up. We've had some of the most amazing episodes of the entire series in Shippuden as well.

In terms of the anime, the first part of Shippuuden was absolutely horrible with **** for pacing, and then in the second arc the pacing was also bad but it was better. After the filler arc that was better than the preceding arcs, it actually improved a great deal and often even surpassed the manga in quality. So in short, for the first part of Shippuuden, the original series was better, but for the second part, Shippuuden is superior.

As just for animation alone Shippuden...But, I really dont care for the speed or pace of how Shippuden usually is. So Id have to give that to the Original Series.

I've seen some people recently share my view that Naruto hurt itself by seemingly having a brief introduction arc and then running into the main plot (Exam arc onwarRAB).

I think the big thing that has hurt Hurricane Chronicles (aside- other than laziness, do we really have to keep using Shippuden when apparently a perfectly logical translation exists? Are people confused talking about 'HC' on here will be confused with me? Anyway...) is that the pacing is basically what every critic of shonen series says erabodied- Talk, fight fight fight. Talk fight fight fight. Talk, fight fight fight, etc. Add in that characterisation has pretty much died. The cast are now barely developed shells, with just enough there for the fanfic/fanart crowd to latch onto and work with. I'd say we saw the same thing with Gundam Wing.

Well the dub calls it "Shippuden" so if that's any indication...
But fanfic/fanart is such a huge and neccesary part of the Naruto fandom [/sarcasm]

It does? Viz, stop pandering to teenagers who want to make Asian culture their secret language!

Fan artists ruin everything *remerabers the SD Gundam hentai doujinshi he sturabled on* You broke me, Google!!

It was my impression that Shippuden translates to "Hurricane Chronicles," which I would have been quite pleased to have seen directly translated for the English audience. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The pacing in the anime has often been very bad. Some parts actually get compared to DBZ, which if true is pretty damn awful. That said, I think the story and characters are actually an improvement. It doesn't fill in part 1's gaps, in the sense that characters that only got a broad overview before are mostly still the same.

However, as a result of that, there's more purpose to it. Most of the plot is related to Naruto or Sasuke in some way, and when it does turn attention to another ninja it usually succeeRAB pretty well. Some people gloss over it, but Sakura and Chiyo fighting Sasori is a genuinely good fight. That first arc also makes a point of telling us that we're looking at Tsuande's successor. You could say the Sasori fight is a little long similar to the rest of the show I suppose, but even if that's so they at least knew how to direct the action and build tension. When the fight hits its climax, it's utter chaos.

Then you have what's basically Shikamaru's arc, and it was awesome. The boy basically grows up into a man right before our eyes. He's arguably right behind Naruto in terms of the quality of the so-called rookie nine from part one. He's been very well developed. I'm sure fans of a particular former genin hope their character will get improved in a similar way.

However, does the story really have to do that? I think Hurricane Chronicles is probably better off for picking a handful of characters to elevate instead of trying to give a couple dozen different characters attention. Then it just struggles to give everyone their due and fails on most counts. That's what part one often did, especially during the filler: basically pulling people's names out of a hat and then sending them on missions. I say save it for the movies and let the main story do what it should. A character should be used if and only if it makes sense for he or she to be there.

Granted, part one had some good canon stories. I can even see why you'd introduce a lot of characters, if only to give us context about the world. Neji's story, for instance, was legitimate backstory for both himself and the setting. However now everything is all grown up, and I'd rather see issues getting resolved then seeing new ones crop up for 20 different characters. Bleach likes to do that, and to me it's a reason why it isn't as good as Naruto.

If the pacing is too much of a barrier, there's always the comic. At the end of the day though, I respect part 1's canon content but I prefer part 2's. It's moving the story forward more than part 1 ever did.

I'd go with the first series. A bit more originality in character design, and (of course) much, much, much better pacing.

Shippuden feels slower than any other anime I've ever watched, even DBZ.

As far as the anime, I like the original better. Shippuden is just TOO slow paced.

When it comes to the manga, I lean toward Shippuden since the last couple months have been really good.

You know, all things considered, I think the pacing in Dragonball Z was actually pretty good. Unlike Naruto and Bleach, which has long stretches of filler, the filler in Dragonball Z almost always directly supports the main story and gives the impression that the story is moving forward. I still don't understand why we didn't have them animate what happens in those two and a half years when Naruto is training with Jaraiya. Seeing the other characters going through the chunin exams again would at least be as interesting as some of the other filler that they came up with and it least it would give viewers the impression that time is moving forward. Dragonball Z always seemed to get some traction whenever there was a gap in time like that. For instance, in the time period in between the Radditz and Nappa fights it always seemed like time was moving forward and I think the filler actually helped to build the anticipation for Nappa and Vegeta's arrival.

That being said, so far I'm not really understanding why so many people complain about the pacing in Shippuden. Though, that may be because hulu streams 8 episodes a week so there's not much of a wait between episodes.

Naruto is much more boring compared to his part 1 self. I like the development between Naruto and Sakura's quest to get back Sasuke and learning to grow up with each other and there new frienRAB. I think it's Sasuke that compells this story.

Well, when it comes to DBZ the pacing in the latter half of the battle with Freeza sort of fell apart due to both weak animation and filler on Earth--where nothing of consequence really happened unless it was adapted from the Manga. Alas, that's what happens when you stretch ten or so chapters into some twenty-five episodes.

Look at it this way: a year of filler, and the exciting return to canon, and then instead of a return to great quality to make up for the fillers, we get 3 episodes of Deidara slowly flying through the city avoiding Gaara's slow moving sand, Kisame splashing water at everyone instead of sending surging waves, the most boring music ever especially for action scenes, several minutes just of people running and repeating things we already know, an entire episode of people repeating the same plan over and over again when all the plan amounts to is "remove all of these seals at the same time", and Guy vs. Guy.

I stopped watching Shippuden mid-50s but have been keeping up with the part 2 manga. Honestly, I've lost a lot of interest in Naruto since part 2 started, though the last few chapters have been good enough to pique my interest once more. The anime's pacing was getting on my nerves so I just dropped it (and I don't drop series lightly, so yeah). I keep telling myself I'll get back into it eventually, but that has yet to happen.

While the Shippuden anime did some things that I liked ("Hero's Come Back" remains one of my favorite OPs for instance), I've been satisfied with reading the manga, though even that has sometimes felt like a chore to get through. I enjoyed part 1 so much more and was very into the series while watching it, so I have to give the edge to it.
