"Napoleon Dynamite" Animated Series Pre-Premiere Discussion (Spoilers)

A Napoleon Dynamite cartoon was announced to be heading to Fox a few months ago, though there wasn't a set date. Nothing out of Comic-Con, so it's probably not coming until 2011.

I'm mostly curious as to how they'll animate it. Something in a style similar to Ed, Edd, n Eddy seems about right to me.

I'm still trying to figure out why Fox is doing this at all. Napoleon Dynamite is a 6-year-old movie, and it was never phenomenally popular. Plus, it's not a domestic comedy; Fox typically treats its' animated comedies that aren't about families like a red-headed stepchild.

I could be wrong, but I only see this going the same route as Sit Down, Shut Up: it runs for a few weeks on Animation Domination, the ratings don't gel, Fox moves it to some graveyard time slot for the remainder of its' run, Fox gives it the ax, and then the reruns turn up on either [adult swim] or Comedy Central.

Yeah, this show won't last long. Fox doesn't give the time of day to any animated series that doesn't have Seth McFarlane's name attached to it.

Most likely, they'll pre-empt American Dad like they do every year, then cancel this show to make room for AD's return for it's final few episodes of the season.

Because as we all know, anything that deviates from a successful formula is a 'big risk' to these execs. :sad:And once it ends up on [adult swim], the ratings go through the roof. Resulting in Fox having a change of heart about the show, and bring it back from the grave to fit in with the other shows. By comparison, it's amazing how Matt Groening, and Mike Judge's shows lasted as long as they did.
And even that show has MacFarlane's name attached to it. :rolleyes:I'll say. You don't see anyone wearing 'Team Pedro' T-shirts at the mall these days.

I liked the movie when I saw it. And I'll probably check this out, but I have doubts it'll do well.

While the movie isn't as popular as it was a few years ago, it's not completely forgotten, and it might make a comeback. But, I have my doubts...

Napoleon Dynamite does not need an animated series, the movie was kind of funny but it's not the kind of film that would translate into an animated project too well in my opinion, it probably would last very long either. Seriously, this just seems like a waste of time and effort, I mean, is anyone even going to watch a cartoon based upon a very nich movie? I know I probably wouldn't.

The movie aired the other day on MTV and it ended up being the #1 Trending Topic worldwide. Napoleon isn't dead just yet. I think this will do fairly well.

Having something like Family Guy or Simpsons as a lead-in or lead-out could help it out.

If it's well written and actually funny, it might survive. But pretty much anything outside of the 'Cleveland Show' that Fox has trotted out on Sunday night over the last few years has bombed pretty hard.

Napoleon Dynamite wasn't phenomenally successful, only moderately successful. There's a difference. And again, that was 6 years ago. ND just doesn't have the kind of heat of a Star Wars, Rocky, Ghostbusters or even Men in Black.

Plus, ND isn't a domestic comedy, nor does it have Seth MacFarlane's name attached to it, both of which are what Fox currently looks for in an animated prime time comedy. There's a chance that it could succeed, but it's got a lot riding against it.

Well, some more info came out about the show that seems it's a decade too late.

The entire original cast have been invited to return for the show, which will be 6 episodes should it air and some preview art got released.

Looks like a cross of the movie with Mike Judge's style.

I didn't see this coming. I'll give it a chance, but I wonder if it'll be very cartoony, or if it will be more like a live action program in animated form (King of the Hill has the quality of a live action program, after all).

This is the talkback thread for "Napoleon Dynamite" Getting Fox Toon Treatment.

Wow, it passed the pilot stage and is heading to a TV near you. I hope for Fox's sake this is the most brilliant, witty, incredible adaption of a dated fad movie from five years ago EVER. I also hope this "Mike Sully" mentioned in the article is a separate person named Mike Sully and not an actual typo for Mike Scully, inventor of bad Simpsons episodes. And The Pitts.

As for the second cartoon mentioned....I can't pre-judge this one. It's different. That's all I can say.
