I saw a horror/Sci-Fi movie once that stood out in my mind from being a bit younger, and never managed to figure out what it was. It took place in space, perhaps on the/a moon station. The monster was some sort of bio-mechanical Red Egg shaped thing. I seems to have been able to take over humans. I've been looking for a while, and it seems to be at least post 1988 and probably pre 1996.
