Name the film?

I'm trying to think of a film that came out in the 80s when everyone was getting video players.

It was about some scientists who discovered a time device in egypt and there was a mummy going around killing people.
It ended on a cliffhanger but the next movie or series was never made.

I think this might be a movie called Time Walker... I remember it being about a teacher who discovers a sarcophagos in King Tuts tomb, which turns out to be a 3000 year old alien... which then comes to life and starts killing students to find some gems to allow it to travel home.

Anythign like the movie you are thinking about?
