...compatible in a tank? I am big on ecosystem type aquariums. I recently inherited a pair of jewel cichlids and a 90 gallon bowfront tank. I want to add more fish. I love rift lake fish but know that they want a much higher pH than the jewels. Is there a balance where both fish will be happy so I can add some yellow labs? What fish are a better fit (no kribs)? I would prefer to get smaller and compatible african river and stream fishes that come from the same regions and rivers as the Jewels.

The owner of the fish wasn't sure on exact species. He had bought them as just "jewels" from a chain fish store and I assume they are hybrids.
I know everyone likes to lump into the species Hemichromis bimaculatus, and it is likely that this species is the predominant mix in my new fish.
The male looks like this guy:

The female looks like what they call the "neon" jewels and is surely a mutt/hybrid. She looks like this:
