For the life of me, I can't remember the name of this book. It's fiction and came out within the last ten years. Its about a guy that takes this mysterious drug that makes him insanely productive. He starts reading books and absorbing knowledge like never before. He soon realizes, though, that the drug has a dark side and he has "black out" moments where he remembers doing crazy and violent things. Without the drug he starts going into withdrawls and the book ends with him on the run, with no chance of getting more of the drug. We're led to believe that the president is now taking the drug.
