in love with a sculptor? The book starts off with a woman working in house and is plucking a chicken and starts crying. She is comforted by one of the guests at the party who is not attractive but nice. She ends up marrying this guy but he is not that nice and she wants to divorce him. He ends up dying and she and her son by him (Ivo) move to a small town near her sister Phillipa's house. She rents a small house from a sculptor and ends up falling in love with him. Phillipa has an affair in her sister's rented house which makes the sculptor thinks that she is the one having the affair. She later finds out that her first husband enjoyed cross-dressing. The book is set in present day.
