n97 mini vs n900 vs vs e72

Really tough choices there. But bang for the back, and its a tough call, it would be the E72, then N97 Mini and then the N900. The N900 has the superior OS but the E72 and N97 Mini still has more applications---yes, there are quite actually many applications you can use on Symbian.
 
I am in agreement, E72 is one HOT looking device but the thought of leaving linux-based OSes to a S60 makes me cringe

Now if E72 was a maemo/andriod it would be amazing
 
I'd suggest the Mini.

E72 has erratic dpad, a little difficult to use accurately, and has 'light leaks' under the screen. Soon it will have the same "dust under the screen" problem of the E71.

N900 is good, but its big and thick, has no portrait mode and NO MMS.

i'd pick the n97 mini for me personally. n900 no att 3g, no portrait, no mms, and immature app ecosystem. e72 screen way too small.
 
I have no way of knowing how good an E72 is until I pick one up or gets to handle one. The reason why I reserve judgment on the E72 is because unlike other Symbian S60 v3, the one on the E72 appears peppered with many improvements that maybe worth nothing.

Screen is small but the CPU is fast and battery life is strong.

I don't have an N97 Mini but my experience on the Nokia 5530 gives me a lot of optimism on the future of the touchscreen side of Symbian OS. While it still feels barebones over the open source Linux based mobile OS, the touchscreen Symbian V5 is at least simple to use and quite responsive on the latest updates. If the 5530 had 3G and a bigger screen it would be a winner. Which leads me to the N97 Mini as it practically answers that call.
 
Some thoughts.

I think the Nokia N900 has enormous potential. Even without carrier subsidy, its possible the prices of the phone may fall to the 500 or 600 level. If this was isolated on a national market like say, the US or UK only, that would be disaster. But with Nokia's global distribution, it can still find enough adopters even at that price to sell a few million. Once that happens, its possible to start an ecosystem, especially if the users are wealthy, at least so to buy the phone, which means they got data plans, disposable income to buy apps, and the education or technical level enough to realize the phone to its fullest potential.
