n95 and gmail

I just used the settings wizard to set it up, when it retrieves the email though (have it set to 5, tried other amounts as well) it just pulls 5 random emails, not the last 5. anyone know whats up with that?

Has to be the S60 email. Gmail app wouldn't spit out such results nor does it let you select the number of messages to pull. IMO Gmail on the N95 is much easier through the Gmail app http://gmail.com/app.

Setup the POP / SMTP settings on the device though in order to email images directly from your handset if you need it.

Shozu can do this, as well as upload automatically to a number of different services. It's quite a nice app for moving media content off the device when you aren't near a comp.

ya im using the app, but i wanted to set it up through the s60 email so that I could send attachments since the gmail app doesnt allow this. guess ill just have to use the s60 email for sending and the gmail app for checking

The mobile browser interface to Gmail is also pretty good - I think it's http://m.gmail.com. Not sure if it allows attachments, but you can also jump into 'basic HTML' mode from there and I'm certain it does.

Good luck!

I believe your problem is a Gmail one, not the phone. I had this problem when I first set it up with my E70 a while back... drove me nuts until I figured out what to do.

1. Sign into gmail on your PC (can do it on your phone I suppose)
2. Go to "Settings" from the upper right
3. Go to the "Forwarding and POP" tab
4. Press the button for "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on"

Save the changes and it should be working correctly!

(Also I suggest selecting "keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox" from the pulldown menu so that if you accidentally screw around with emails on the phone it won't mess it up on your real Gmail inbox)

strange, i have had pop enabled for some time now, over a year but i went into the settings on gmail, enabled pop for all new mail again and saved, sent a test email to myself and the phone grabbed it just fine

I've always had similar issues using Gmail and POP. It seems to want to download old emails that still are considered "new" even if I archived them. I gave up on the whole thing the day they came out with the java app, which works beautifully for me. I just wish they would add attachments.
