N80 WIFI Found but not conected

OK... Ive searched all N80 related threads and cant find a answer to this. Or its a ridiculus question....

I have a flashed N80IE and I seem to be able to conect to wifi to surf the web ect but as soon as I close the window the conection breaks. For example the "home screen" where it lists the state of the wifi scan, never says "conected"... should it? In adition everytime I try to access a network app (ie google maps, Weather etc) it asks what access point to conect to.
Is there no way to keep the conection open?

Secondally is there anyway to have it connect automatically to any unsecure access point?

Thanks in advance.

Mine also breaks the connection when I end my web session. I actually think it is a good thing because it conserves battery power.

Again, mine also always asks which connection I want to connect to. I believe you can ask it not to in your connection settings if you wish.

ya I see that in there however I figure that is just asking you initially what access point you want. If I set it to use only one then Ill have to change it where ever im at home>work>hotspot

See my main problem is that at work (a university) the wifi is unprotected dhcp but once connected it forwards you through a login page ... much like many pay for wifi spots. This is fine however if it disconnects after closing your browser and you can?t minimize I cant use any apps that depend on network access. I hope that made sense!!

There must be something im overlooking. There is so many symbian heads here...you cant tell me a WINDOWS mobile device has better networking customizable features then a SYMBIAN!

I dont think there is a work around for this. If you want to maintain your connection you can merely minimize the web browsing window. You can keep your Wi-fi connection if your connected to your email mailbox, but again, once you close the app you lose the connection. It's a battery saving feature but I understand your frustrations. They've designed a phone that allows you to minimize the web browser and stay connected then "attempt" to run other apps. Unfortunately there isnt enough ram to run those other apps so were kind of stuck.

It would make sense....

In the short time with this N80 I have came to the conclusion that there is a real lack of customization options. Two of the most prevalent being this ^ with the wifi connection and the lack of options to change the GUI namely the "home" screen. It almost seems watered down. Much like a MAC is to a PC.
