N80 strange WLAN prob

N00B query..

I am trying to connect a N80 firware v4.0623.0.42 (20-09-2006 RM-92 Nokia N80 33.01) to a WLAN but can't even scan for available WLANs - it just responds no availalable WLAN networks.

I installed the Nokia WLAN wiz and "no WLAN found".

I have since removed all router security so its an unsecured, public, unfiltered home wireless lan using a linksys router. A PSP connects fine, as does a laptop but the n80 refuses to find any access points. I have created IAP searched for the WLAN and it finds nothing, I then specify the SSID - still nothing. Change to static IPs - nothing. use the Nokia WLAN wiz to scan ... you guessed it nothing.

When I try to creat a new IAP the phone hangs with "application busy"...I press the red button and can edit the IAP settings.

Any ideas?
 
Eh.. thats your problem you bought a linksys.. lol j/p have you tried restarting the router? is your SSID hidden?

does your N80 work with other WLAN connections?

apparently linksys v5.0 and v6.0 has problems, is it possible to flash back to v4.0?
 
I supect the nokia is the problem...I have used it to scan at work (open SSID) and it can't detect any of the 3 wlans there either.
NSC in NZ won't offer any assistance and have suggested I return it to the UK
 
The flaw of the n80's WLAN, it has very little range and speed. If your outta range most of the time you get disconnected or it just wont detect it. Make sure that your absolutely sure that its the n80 before sending it away.

Visit main hotspots such as coffee shops and test it out.

You can also try flashing your phone to the latest firmware.

Send it back as a last resort

I actually found my n80 to be really good with wlan range... Try upgrading your firmware through the NSU, see if that helps.

Yes, and I hear that Nokia customer service is terrible. Flash you phone to the latest firmware using Nokia Software Updater you can download it from their website.

make sure that the USB cable has a stable connection before using this tool
 
Oh well no change - WIFI doesn't seem to work for me and the local NSC suggests returning it to the country of purchase as there is nothing they can do....

waiting patiently for the next fw
 
the linksys is running b+g...what's more concerning is when I use the auto search under connections to search for the WLAN/SSID the first time I search nothing, the second time nothing and when I click back twice the N80 seems to hang with "application busy" message. I can click the red button to continue but perhaps I have a fw problem. I tried FOTA but it come back with no updates.
 
Yes random hardware failures can be fw related check out www.gsmforum.com for how to do your own flashing. Perhaps try the internet edition firmware
 
has nokia gone under?? I can't get on to any website where the updater program is, page cannot be displayed. My N80 has so many problems, itis practically unuseable. The time randomly changes on it, it fails to notify me of new messages, WIFI doesn't work and it says to set something up with my cellular provider (why, thought it was a feature of the phone to receive interenet in hot spots or through a network) Anybody know how/where i can get the program to update and the new firmware?

just checked my phone and it is now off, completely dead, won't turn on, and it has a charged battery, #%@$
