N80 - Is anyone else having this much trouble?

I am currently on my thrid N80 from orange (had this one just over a week) and I am still getting some random crashes, on Saturday I had to take the battery out of my phone because it froze! My battery seems to only last a day, with about 5 mins talk and 7 texts. I don't leave bluetooth on. don't use the internet or anything and don't have any apps running in the background.
I would have to say that this is by far the worst phone I have ever had and I will not be buying a Nokia phone again.
I've run Orange again today and they say they will phone me back either today or tomorrow to sort it. It's a shame because on paper this is a really good phone.
Orange even told me they withdrew this phone a few weeks ago! But flet that the problems were fixed, which I would not agree with.
Is anyone else having this much trouble?

try installing the SMS accelerator. Make sure when you get your phone to first upgrade whatever software is needed, install all applications you want, and then restart the phone. (Remember, it is more like a computer, so treat it like one.)

From the nokia site

This application accelerates the sending of SMS messages. It is recommended that you install this application to prevent slowness in SMS sending, which may occur over time if you send lots of SMS messages.

Uh, SMS Accelerator is made by Nokia.

Sounds to me like you got a bum phone. Or maybe it's just Orange's firmware that sucks.

Agreed about the battery life (mines lasts about a day and a half), but I always have a charger within reach, so it doesn't really affect me.

BTW I'm using firmware version 4.0623.0.42 unbranded.

Current firmware right now is .42

I know that the earlier versions had problems with random crashing. I was under the impression that V4 fixed all that.

This is all news to me. Is the phone branded. Maybe its the carriers own firmware that is making it crash?

Yes it is orange's own firmware. The second phone they sent me (same firmware as it has now) seemed to slow all the problems, but after 3 months the speaker started rattling/buzzing and started to crash more often. Strange how this one is much wrose with the same firmware.
You can't upgrade the operator locked firmware untill they acept it, which usally only happens with major updates, i.e. v3 to v4.

Is that the Internet Edition? It's a shame that UK phones all seem to be branded, it means you can't update them.
Although I would have to say Orange have been good, as every time I have phoned I have had a new phone arive the next day! The down side is they are exstremly reluctant to change it for a different phone. They said they will have to phone me back this time, because they are trying to get authorisation to give me a different type of phone.

I've had the N80 on Uk Orange since July last year and havn't really had a single problem with it, at least not since V4 firmware. My girlfriend however also bought the N80 from Orange at the exact same time and has had nothing but problems with it, so she got her's replaced by a new one and its working fine again.

I'm using the N80IE firmware 4.0632.0.38 on mine now which is working great for the last month or two. Used Phoenix to upgrade it though.

The N80 really seems to be a complete hit or miss when it comes to quality. Just appears to be luck.

It could be user error. I think half your problem could be the lack of SMS accelerator, and the other half, bad luck. I'm sure that one of the three have been ok with a little misunderstanding and communication fault between you and your device, but try another one, take the proper steps to make sure its ready and optimized, and then continue loving your phone .

I have the IE, so it could be an original N80 firmware issue through orange, but we'll never really know.

The second phone I got was fine for a while, I would have kept it if it wasn't for the speaker becoming faulty.
The first one I had was one of the first N80's, so it had all of the original firmware problems.
The second one was fine, v4 seemed to fix all of the previous problems and was a good phone until the skear bust.
The third one probably is just a faulty one, bad luck really. Had it crashing where I need to take the battery out.
Spoke to two guys at work who have them, one had the same problems as me, only more frequent, and has now given up and using his Sony Erricson again. The hasn't ever had any problems and thinks it is a great phone.
Maybe it is just down to luck.

I have personally had a couple "crashes" where the phone locks up and is unresponsive to any buttons, but still makes keytones...but I really have found this problem a minor inconvenience. Sorry you haven't had much luck...I'm sure by mid-2007, most bugs will be fixed by some newer firmware...as these phones are WAY ahead of themselves on feature lists and have much catching up to do with multitasking issues. When you get your new new new new phone (4th), install the SMS accelerator and you should be fine.

My speaker rattles on and off. I don't mind. However, this firmware issue I hear is about Orange's branded firmware. Problems occurred with their firmware on almost all of the Nokia S60 V2 and V3 phones.

Just a quick update, I've not heard from orange again and my phone has now developed a new fault. The phone seems to keep losing its contection to it's arial. This morning I noticed I had no signal anywhere in my house, restarted my phone and got full signal, and received about 7 messages sent yesterday, so what point it stopped working I don't know. Then today everytime I try to make a call I get 'conection error' and then all the signal disapears.
Defo a faulty phone this time, not a software problem.
