n75 vs 6290 - confused

Hello .. does anyone know what are the major differences between the s60 N75 and the s60 6290 ??

both are due to come out in the coming weeks, both are series 60, both have a 2 mpix camera with flash, QVGA screen, so on and so forth ...

now, I myself have recently purchased a 6126. So i'm not gonna jump right on either one of those handsets when they come out. but i'm pretty curious about the whole s60 thing, and really I'd like my next phone to have just that. So i've begun debating between the two units. I know other s60 phones out there are better already, however I'm not looking for a top notch handset, just basicaly a good mid range s60, that flips.

so ... appart from the looks and perhaps the markets they seem targeted towards, what in the world are the major differences between the two phones ? because i've compared them side by side, and there doesn't seem to be any !

I have to say, however, that it's too bad none of them seem to have the awesome flip open button... jsut can't live without that one anymore !! !!

so an unlocked 6290 would not be able to use the north american 3G network ?


what about Canada ? i've seen articles relating to the implementing of a 3G network, is it reasonable to assume they would follow the american model if only for praticality reasons ?


seems odd too that two phones that arent released yet would have different versions of the operating system. ?! why wouldnt the N75, that isnt even being sold yet, come bundled with the latest s60 version ??

please shed some light on that .....


so with all of this said i'll probably have time to ponder on many more new phones before I actually shell out the dough. If I had known about those two i wouldve never bought the 6126, even though I'm totally satisfied.. oh well, it's a never ending thing, these phones, as always ........


by the way how "fast" are those s60 phones ? ive never had the change to toy with one; like say in terms of gaming, could it compare to some of the handheld gaming consoles out there in the likes of the gameboy advance for instance (forget DS or PSP..) .... or is that even still too much to ask for a telephone ?

Correct, an unlocked 6290 would not use the North American 3G network.
I believe Canada uses the same GSM frequencies as the US does, and that they are going to use the same UMTS frequencies, as well. Not 100% sure, though.

It's not odd because the N75 has been in the works alot longer than the 6290. The N75 was supposed to be launched in November, and has been pushed back. That's why it's only S60v3. The 6290 was only just announced last week, and I would believe that every s60 phone announced from here on out will be s60v3 fp1 or greater.

They are plenty fast. It absolutely will compete with a Gameboy, and better. If you're wanting gaming, actually, I'd wait a bit longer. In the first half of 07, it's pretty certain that Nokia is going to relaunch the N-Gage platform, only instead of being a specific handset, it'll be a platform that works on many different phones. Newer s60v3 phones are having 3d graphics acceleration built in, phones like the N93 and N95 already have it, specifically for gaming. Check YouTube for some videos of the N93 doing some gaming, complete with a tv-out option.

Quite honestly, unless you're just absolutely itching for an s60 phone, I'd stick with your 6126 for another 4-5 months, see what else gets announced.

thanks for the info ... about gaming, i'm not expecting anything exceptionnal anyway - i was just curious as to it's capacities. I'm an old school gamer anyhow - I still mostly only toy around with my snes and even some old nes games on an emulator ... few of todays games appeal to me for some reason or another ...

about the firmware, you think it's reasonable to believe an upgrade will be made available for the n75 some time in the future or does nokia not usually do that ? i'm still "new" to this whole cell phone world and i'm don't know how nokia usually handles things like that.

i will stick to my 6126 for a while like I said .. if only for financial reasons ... not to mentino the fact that the one I have now is a used one, purchased for 240$ after I totalled my 1st one only 3 weeks after taking on a 3 year deal with my provider ................ the moral of this story is don't bar hop with you brand new cell phone .. total cost of my 6126 amouted to about 500 dollars canadian, all accessories included (some of them twice also) .............. of course I didnt know back then I could've waited for the N75 or even just purchase an LCD screen with an flex cable on the web for aruond 60 bucks ......

so yeah Ill hang on, i'm only dreaming ...
