N73 vs. N73 ME music player audio quality

Has anyone been able to compare the audio quality between the 2 music player apps? Specifically:

-Is max volume louder on N73 ME?
-Is audio more pleasing on N73 ME?

This thread is not about the nice visualizations or the music player UI on the ME. Granted, they're great - but I'm happy enough with the UI on my N73.

Noob apology if this has been covered somewhere else

From what I have read, if you've got the actual N73 ME hardware it is MUCH better. If you're just updating a regular N73 with the ME firmware, though, I don't believe you'll notice a difference. I'm not an audiophile, so I don't notice a difference anyways, personally. I rather enjoy the quality of sound coming through the headset AND through the loudspeaker (though the loudspeaker could use some more bass) on my regular N73 with ME firmware. Darla Mack would be a better person to tell you. Her blog is www.darlamack.com

ME hardware will be the same as std N73. The only difference is the color, Music Player application & accessories.

I can hear the difference in terms of quality. Audio in ME FW is much better due to stereo widening & loudness options. Yes, with loudness 'on' option the volume gets higher in ME.

If that's the case then I would suggest just getting a regular N73 and updating the firmware to Music Edition like I did. The housings will come along but there's no reason to pay that much more $$ for simply a black housing.

Interesting points you make. Is the loudness feature a straight volume boost or a bass + treble booster like the ones on the hi-fi receivers of old?

As far as stereo widening, I'm usually not fond of it - it's usually done with a delay line on one or both channels, and the resulting effect sounds like "fake" reverb to me. But I could be wrong...

Thanks for the input - Sounds like the crossover to ME firmware may be worthwhile for the loudness feature alone.

It's not a volume boost like the iTunes volume boost (that flattens all your tunes out). It increases the volume without crapping your music out. I'm able to use my N73 with the new ME firmware in my truck at one-below-full volume and hear it perfectly fine. It obviously doesn't sound as good through the speakers of the phone as it does through the RCA input and iPod setup, but it's not unusable, either. I keep meaning to meet up with a buddy who's going to give me a pop-port to 3.5mm adapter, so that would be the real test.

nope...same hardware...again it could be the stereo widening and loud options in the ME firmware that is making better sound.

mine is updated and its GREAT! love the new ME UI for mp3's and stereo widening is actually pretty good...better than my dedicated mp3 player's DNSe.

No difference in sound quality. The basic phone hardware is identical between the regular N73 and the ME.

The bass boost sounds terrible (imho), and the stereo widening ... well, I've hardly ever liked that in any implementation, either on a cheap phone or the Sennheiser Orpheus, that had something along those lines ($10k headphones).

The only time any sort of stereo widening has sounded good was on the Stax Diffuse field equaliser, that gave a mass of extra space around the music ....

Guess that for some the widening is good though.
