N73 IE Edition questions...

embrace life

New member
Hey everyone,

I just upgraded from N73 origonal to N73 IE edition. It worked perfectly fine and only took me about 15minutes, however I have a few questions.

1) Were the icons on the N73 supposed to be animated? I had a feeling that they were animated before I did the update and now they're no longer animated.

2) The reason why I installed IE edition was to get MSN Messenger on the phone, but I can't find it anywhere on here. I have confirmed that it is indeed IE version that I have installed on my phone, but I just can't find the MSN icon.

Anybody able to help me with any of these questions please let me know.

Cheers

The icons are never animated on a S60 so your in good shape. Not sure about MSN as i've never had the IE version of the N73....sold mine before that fw was released.

BTW...congrats on your 58th ann of Indendence.

In the main menu look for the "Internet folder" it should be in their.

If you don't have just download it here and install: http://www.nokia.com.hk/nokia/0,,98969,00.html

Well I had the ME and went strait to IE for the main reason that ME programs the mutifunction key for music player only.

Thus I couldnt program additional shortcuts.IE has the ME music player upgrades but the mutifunction key can program shortcuts again which was a biggy for me.

But keep in mind the IE cant use the pound key to swith from general to silent profiles since that function is for line 2

ok.. i need to clear this up for myself, i don't have n73 YET!

so.. how can you tell between the normal version and the IE version...coz i'm getting one soon

spikeyjac, there is a difference between ME and IE. That is that the IE has everything that ME does but more and improved. As already stated, the multimedia key function is restored. In addition, IE is setup with several programs to allow you to maxamize the internet on your phone. And I did get the MSN working on the phone, it works perfectly with the phone.

There are no problems with this version from my experience and MOST IMPORTANTLY, it runs VERY smoothly. Keep in mind, all the audio enhancements given with ME edition are still present with IE.

Lance SE,

the way you can tell without actually looking at the firmware will be by going into the menu and checking out the themes. IE and ME version should have WAVEFORM and STAVE installed onto the phone itself (Not the memory card). Also go to the MUSIC player and see if the song by MOBY is in there. If it is, you have ME or IE. Lastly, press the multimedia key and find out if it goes straight to the music player. If it doesn't then you have ME.

i don't seem to understand sorry

is the IE version just an update from the normal N73 or an Update of the ME version..?

becoz i was thinking about buying a N73 ME which is 5XX.XX(changed my mind after knowing that the IE is better)so... if i buy a normal N73 which is 4XX.XX. is the Normal N73 a IE version..?

The IE and ME are simply versions of SOFTWARE installed on the phone. However, BOTH are obtainable, for free via Nokia Updater online.

Thus, the best solution for you woud be to purchase a NORMAL N73 and upgrade the firmware you either of your choice, ME or IE. Keep in mind that the ME version is all black, but you can easily buy a faceplate for like $30 to make it look the same.

a little more than $60 shipped and you get the 2gig card free w/ the ME....and you can prolong the possibility of bricking your phone. I would go w/ the stock ME if your in need of the 2gig card.

hi tired updating it from ME but when i use NSS and try and scan to write the product code and it says error:S
