N73 Firmware Question

I was just wondering how it is that NSU determines what is a newer firmware version...

The reason I ask is that I just got my ME yesterday and flashed it to the IE FW this morning. I was perusing and saw some people talking about the latest Vanilla FW being more responsive so I decided to get that a go. Well after going to the Vaniila FW (which was updated a few days ago) I cannot switch back to either the ME or IE versions. I have tried many product codes for each (various regions), but NSU always tells me that I have the latest version....

I am thinking that NSU is simply looking at the date on each FW version and not noting the different software sets somehow. Perhaps it scans the phone to see which FW its supposed to be (by reading your product code) and then checking the date on the latest version of that FW and if the current version on the web is not newer than your install date then it says "no updates..."

If anyone has any insight here it would be greatly appreciated. I want my IE FW back... oh and for what its worth I didn't seem to notice any speedup with the Vanilla versus the IE. Small ammount of RAM usage was made up, explained the fact that the music player is not constantly running in the BG.

TIA,
Matt

I think that even with the product code "trick", you still cannot "de-" flash your phone, ie put older firmware on it. The newest firmware is 3.0469 or something like that, whereas the previous vanilla, ME, and I believe IE was all 3.0268.

That's why you could easily switch between ME/Vanilla/IE, but can't go back down, because now you have a newer firmware.

With the current version of NSU when it says up to date you cannot do that. There is no option for it. Is there some other software I could use which is compatible with the phone still? (Safely)
